Don Holywell of Supa Stik Labels in WA picks up first prize at the awards presentation in Beijing.

It was one of two label wins for Australia in the regional competition, with RFID’n’Print winning the security label category.

The awards were presented as part of the HP InfoPrint Survive and Thrive Graphic Odyssey, held to coincide with China Print 2009. More than 700 HP customers from around the world were hosted by the company in a fine display of marketing hospitality.

The event was all the more remarkable in light of the reduction in marketing activities by many other suppliers across the industry. It provided an effective statement by the world’s largest IT company of its financial strength and commitment to the graphic arts industry during the current crisis.

The Digital Print Awards are attracting growing interest from the HP Indigo community in the region. This year the competition attracted more than 356 entries for the 12 categories from across 13 countries, an increase of almost 60 per cent on the inaugural year.

“We developed the awards to recognise the outstanding work of professionals who have made the switch to digital printing,” said VS Hariharan, vice president of graphic arts business for the region. “The dramatic increase in the quality of entries is in direct correlation to the dramatic growth of digital printing.”
